First off, the controls kind of suck. The movement is fairly slow, and the hockey sticks swing around you in a full circle. Now, you can swing the stick in either direction, but it swings pretty slowly so it’s very difficult to react with any kind of speed. It makes trying to hit the puck frustrating and difficult. I feel like it would have worked better if the stick just stayed by your side and swinging it was just a short swing, like in regular hokey game.

Secondly, the AI is pretty poor. You can set your AI partner (if you’re playing by yourself) to either attack or defend, and usually the opponents operate in a similar way where one is defending, and one is attacking. The problem is, all of them are bad at doing either job. They’re hopeless at trying to hit the puck and they often didn’t respond to the puck in the ways you might expect them to.

Finally, most of the goals scored on either side feel like accidents, which takes away any sense of satisfaction (or adds frustration if you’ve been scored against). This issue is kind of a sum of the other two issues, the combination of bad AI and slow controls means that it often feels like there’s no intent behind a goal being scored. There were a few times where I hit the puck by accident, it bounced around a little bit and made it in

because my opponent wasn’t really defending its goal. Now, I definitely managed to purposely score a goal a couple of times, but this was definitely the minority here. One particularly frustrating instance of this was being up by two points until the final 20 seconds, at which point my opponent managed to score three points in a row off the puck drop.
